Proper sewing….
I have such a huge collection of fabric I’d forgotten I had so I thought it was time to do some ‘proper’ sewing. In between gardening and de-cluttering I decided I shouldn’t really need to buy clothes when I have so much fabric so this is what I did this week. With this flowing material I made a quick and easy draping cap sleeve dress. Now just need the right occasion to wear it.

is finally finished and ready to go to the bride and groom. I’ve suggested that on each wedding anniversary they put a photo in the album so they have a lifetime of happy memories to look back upon.
Adding a fabric photo of the happy couple gives their book an extra special personal touch then after the wedding ceremony I’ll sew in a voile picture of their marriage certificate.
My next task is to make a book to fit snugly inside this wedding memory box. Even with the book inside there will be plenty of room to store treasured mementoes of a wonderful day.
By adding a few panels covered in vintage damask the wedding box is coming along nicely.
Sometimes it’s nice just to have a bit of a play. This week I found some colourful textured yarns and ribbons so I started weaving……. I made some little cloths by adding stitch to hold everything together then turned them into cards.
After finding a bucketful of watch parts I had a little play to see what I could do with them. Maybe some cards telling people “It’s time to wed”?
I didn’t know how to present these quirky New Home / Moving House cards and tried every which way. Luckily, I have a pal who has the handy knack of arriving on the doorstep with vintage items that I can’t refuse! This time it was a rusty potato fork and I think the prongs show off my cards quite nicely, don’t you?
A friend gave me a beautiful piece of her unfinished Bargello embroidery to do with what I wished! Don’t tell her I cut it up! Teamed with co-ordinating slub silk and gimp I’m very pleased with the way this diary cover turned out.
Another ‘Special’ birthday gift was needed…… But men can be really challenging to design for so it’s great when the Birthday Boy has a “hobby”! It’s also an added bonus to acquire a little something from their childhood and incorporate into the design to make it even more personal.
