And the occasion is…

Mother’s Day, although this type of design suits many occasions.  It’s good for birthdays, thinking of you, get well, with sympathy: the list is endless.  I did a bit of a cheat with this one, though.  I was asked for a card with butterflies but as I didn’t have one I adapted this one with a couple of pre-made butterflies found on my pin-board and glued them on.  Job done and the customer was happy!!

Plotting the pieces…

My next task is to work out exactly where to put the castle and the grassy foreground.  It may not seem much but it’s important to put them in their right places because once they are ironed down… that’s it!!  Oh, and I mustn’t forget that the clouds must go on first so some of them can be peaking out from behind the castle turret.

Cheers…

Not everyone would like a wine glass or bottle on a card especially if they don’t enjoy ‘a drink’!  So for a male friend who prefers a more comforting beverage I thought a coffee cup would be more appreciated.

Upcycling heaven…

I do love to make good use of the bits and pieces I can’t seem to throw away without good reason.  I have a birthday card to make and found some washing up gloves with attractive cuffs that I’m sure I can make good use of!

The grass is greener…

What better way to spend a rainy afternoon than to pick apart the layers of a vintage multi-tiered skirt that found its way into my stash box in readiness for a new use.  The various textured fabrics are just right to use as the grassy background as well as diverse appliqué trees for my latest Windsor Castle wallhangings.

Finally making a start…

on painting the background.  To maximise its usefulness I used a threadbare linen sheet and while it was still damp tore it into specific sized pieces.  I layered them one upon the other and generously painted on the colour encouraging it to seep through the multiple layers giving me several backgrounds for future wallhangings and projects.

Forward Planning…

While making a Valentine card last week I decide to try out a slight variation.  Now that I’ve gathered all the components together I can, whenever inclined, make a range of Valentines Day cards in readiness for next year ❤️

Tonight Beloved…

A friend asked me to make a Valentine card for her husband; quite an easy task as I know he’s a bit of a romantic!  I found a vintage song sheet, some silk furnishing fabric, ragged muslin, a snippet of painted hessian, a roll of red cotton velvet and got to work.  I hope he likes the result and appreciates the sentiment ❤️
